Yarrow for Cold and Flu Treatment |
Yarrow is one of the herbal plants that are considered one of the main herbals in the treatment of cold and flu as it can promote sweating. The botanical name of this plant is Achillea millefolium, and it is from the family Asteraceae, and the yarrow is an herbaceous perennial with feathery green leaves and white or pink flowers. Yarrow has been used in folk medicine for cold and flu treatment as it has antibacterial properties and as a tea it can help soothe the symptoms of the common cold and flu. The compounds in this plant are basta bisabolene, alpha bisabolol and chamzulene. For treatment of cold and flu yarrow tea can be taken up to four times a day and there are no known drug interactions from consumption of the tea. It is possible that some people may have an allergic reaction to yarrow and it should not be used near the eyes. |
