Is Swine Flu the Same Thing as H1N1?

H1N1 flu is the recent flu virus whose first detection was in April 2009 in Illinois and in some parts of United States. The spread of swine flu is just like seasonal flu. It spreads from person to person. Originally, H1N1 virus was referred as swine flu. This is because the laboratory tests revealed that most of the genes in H1N1 virus were that of the virus that was there in the pigs on North America. But after advanced studies, the fact came out that this new virus, H1N1 was a bit different. It had two genes of the flu virus that occurred among pigs in North America and also there were bird genes as well as human genes. Thus H1N1 virus is different as compared to swine flu genetically.

H1N1 virus spreads like seasonal flu virus. It spreads from person to person through coughing and sneezing by the people who carried these germs. It would also spread by touching the surfaces in any public or any other place which had germs on it. When a person touches his mouth, nose etc. after coming in contact with surfaces carrying germs there are chances of infection. H1N1 virus is a chronic one. It is therefore important to take preventive measures.
