How is Stomach Flu Diagnosed?

In order to detect the occurrence of stomach flu in the body, your medical practitioner performs a thorough physical examination to learn about the symptoms of the patient. In this the patient is asked numerous questions on his symptoms, duration of the symptoms, current medications that he is taking and family history. The doctor may also dig out answers on the travel history of the patient in order to learn about his exposure to contaminated drinks or food items. He may want to know the list of food stuff the patient consumed in the past ten days to learn if he was exposed to uncooked food or not.

In most of the cases, a physical examination is adequate to track down this disease as there are no specific routine lab tests to detect the type of virus that has infested inside the body.  However, there is a sole clinical test which can be used to knock out this condition, in case the physical examination fails to yield any result. In this test, a sample of urine is collected and put under a rapid antigen detection test. Strains of the virus, rotavirus can be detected by the presence of immunoassay enzyme in the stool sample.
