What is Sinusitis?

If the person is affected by sinusitis, then the lining in the sinuses will get inflamed and swell. Sinuses are actually filled with air under normal conditions but when fluid gets deposited in sinuses, and then bacteria will grow and produce infection. Allergic rhinitis, common cold is some of the infections that are the cause blockage of sinuses. Sinusitis is of different types:

  1. Acute sinusitis: In this you will feel runny, stuffy nose and pain on your face. These symptoms will not go even after 7 to 10 days of infection and acute sinusitis lasts for 4 weeks or less.
  2. If the inflammation last for more than 4 to 8 weeks of infection, then it is known as sub acute sinusitis.
  3. Chronic inflammation is characterized by inflammation of sinus lasting for time period of 8 weeks or more.
  4. If you get several attacks of sinuses in one year then it is known as recurrent sinusitis.

People whose nasal mucous membrane is swelling or those suffering from nasal blockage are common suffers of sinusitis. Fever, fatigue, pain of facial muscles, continuous discharge from the nasal cavity, and bad odor in breath are some symptoms of sinusitis. Fungi are also found to be one cause for chronic sinusitis.
