Why is Sinusitis mistaken for the Common Cold?

Most of the time sinusitis is mistaken for cold. As most of the symptoms of sinusitis and the common cold are the same like running nose, sore throat, headache, mild fever, body ache and the other symptoms associated remains the same for the both. Sinusitis is mostly caused by the bacteria whereas different viruses are responsible for causing common cold.

Sinusitis causes inflammation of the sinuses. The sinus is generally cause due to a bacterial infection also could be caused by virus. If you have a weak immune system you might develop sinus, it may last for three to eight weeks, this kind of sinus is called as acute sinus and one that last for more than eight wee is known as chronic sinus. The sinus is actually a sir-filled cavity can be found between the bones of the cheeks, right behind the nose and in front of brain, also present on either side of the nose bridge, also located just behind the eyebrows and forehead.

The sinus situated near the brain is highly dangerous and life threatening, it might spread up to brain which can be critical. Various symptoms of sinus remains the same as cold with some other symptoms like frontal headache, face becomes tender just below the eyes, bad breath. Unlike common colds sinus are treated with antibiotics as it is a bacterial infection.
