Peppermint as an Expectorant |
Peppermint is one of the herbs that can be used as a natural expectorant for the natural treatment of colds, flu, and bronchitis. Peppermint is a part of the Lamiacease family and botanically known as Mentha x Pipertia L. The active ingredients in peppermint leaves are an essential oil containing monoterpenes, menthol, mentho esters, including acetate and isovalerianate. The herb also contains menthone, menthofuran, azulene, alpha-pinene and other compounds. One of the things that peppermint is able to do is reduce fevers induced by cold and flu, by causing the body to sweat, and at the same time cooling the body. This herb also helps relieve headaches and migraines brought on by the properties that are in peppermint, which are a natural painkiller. This is also an herbal that can be used as a decongestant by inhaling steam created by peppermint and boiling water to clear blocked sinuses. |
