Though swine flu infection can happen to any person but there are certain people who should be more concerned about catching this flu as they are more likely to get affected by it. People having higher risks of this flu have their bodies being susceptible to serious complication of the flu like bloodstream infection and pneumonia. Thus the people who are at most risk for swine flu include children younger than five years of age, elderly people over 65 years of age, pregnant women, adults or children who suffers from various medical conditions like asthma, metabolic disorders like diabetes, pulmonary problems, hematological, neurologic and neuromuscular and immunosuppression. Children and adolescents who are less than 18 years of age and have been receiving long term therapy for aspirin may also be at risk for having the Reye syndrome after the virus infection. Moreover residents of chronic care facilities and nursing home also have high risk of getting infected with swine flu as they are surrounded by people having the infection. The swine flu virus attacks the lower and the upper airways which make it difficult for the person to breathe and thus this flu becomes a miserable illness even for the healthy people who get this infection. Swine flu also makes the lungs of the person more susceptible to the bacterial infection which can even lead to the death. |
