Lemon Balm Helps Cold and Flu

Lemon balm is botanically known as Melissa officinalis L., it is from the family Lamiaceae, and is a part of the mint family with a lemon aroma. Lemon balm was used in Europe in the treatment of headaches, migraines, colds, insomnia and as a mild sedative.

The compounds that are found in this herb are as many as 70 that are known to help in the treatment of many illnesses, with monoterpenes, citronellal, citral, methyl citronellate and others that can assist in helping ease the symptoms of the common cold and flu.

Lemon balm can be taken in the form of a tea three to five times a day to ease the symptoms of cold and flu, and has no known side effects or interaction complications with other types of medication. The herb is known to promote sweating of feverish colds and eliminate toxins from the body.
