The Flu With Older Adults |
People over 65 years of age stand at a higher chance and risk of getting the flu. Not only do they stand at a higher risk of the flu but they could get a secondary infection easier then someone who is younger. There are some flu complications that older people should really be careful and out to make sure that they do not have them. Some of the flu complications for older adults include but are not limited to: - Dehydration. It does not matter what age the person is you can get this but if you are older you must be really careful that you do not become dehydrated. - Chronic medical conditions that you have might get worse such as emphysema or either heart disease. That is why it should be treated right away. - Pneumonia can easily happen to people that are over 65. Older adults really need to make sure that they wash their hands and avoid touching people that might be sneezing or coughing. When someone that is over 65 starts having flu like symptoms they should go to the doctor right away and not put off treatment. |
