What Is Congestion?

Congestion also known as nasal congestion is a common condition observed among both adults and children. This takes place mainly in the nasal cavities when the tissues in the cavity swell and become tender. This happens because of excessive inflammation inside the blood vessels of nose. This condition is particularly characterized by a feeling of stuffiness inside the nose and in severe cases, inside the throat as well. Congestion is not an illness, nor a disease, but a temporary condition that gets relieved naturally within a span of few weeks.

Nasal congestion is often accompanied by discomfort in inhaling breath. In adverse cases, it can affect your hearing as well as speaking abilities. It is triggered by common cold, sinus, flu, high fever and sometimes bronchitis. In rare cases, congestion is built up due to the attack of Vasomotor rhinitis. Rhinitis is a non-allergic inflammation that takes place in the mucus. This condition results into runny nose and sneezes. In a few cases, congestion is the predominant outcome of certain allergies towards food products like milk, peas etc.  Congestion can also take place due to chicken pox, roseola, cough etc.

However, nevertheless the cause, this condition gets easily relieved by using specialized nasal sprays or drops.
