What Is the Bird Flu?

Bird Flu, also called Avian Influenza, is a kind of flu infection found in birds. This infection can be life threatening at times as our body has yet not developed immunity against this infection. It is alarming to learn that the virus that triggers this infection in birds can mutate in its genetic form and thus can cause serious health ramifications among humans. This infection imposes two main risks to the entire race of humans. The first risk of the progression of serious disease after the virus is transferred to humans from the birds. The second risk is that if the virus is not diagnosed at time, it grows into a highly contagious form that easily spreads from one person to another.

This infection needs a proper conduction of specialized laboratory tests for its detection in the human body. The test is mainly conducted by collecting a swab of throat or nose right during the first few days of this infection. This sample is then sent to the laboratories for microscopic detection of influenza virus. Once the virus is detected, the patient should get started with the medication right away, as during later stages the virus may show resistance towards the medication.
